The Surge AI Research Fellowship brings together PhD-level scholars and expert practitioners to guide the development and evaluation of AI models operating at the frontier of human knowledge. The program focuses primarily on STEM disciplines, where precision, depth, and rigor are essential.
This fellowship is designed to complement existing academic or professional commitments, offering flexibility and autonomy.
As an AI Research Fellow, you will:
Evaluate and analyze advanced AI models for limitations, failure modes, and edge cases
Design rigorous benchmarks and challenges to test model performance
Contribute expert feedback to improve model accuracy, safety, and reliability
Collaborate with Surge AI leadership on research strategy and evaluation methods
Uphold the highest standards of academic and scientific rigor
Required:
PhD or equivalent expertise in a STEM or closely related field
Strong research background and analytical skills
Deep understanding of scientific rigor, evaluation, and methodology
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
Preferred:
Experience in AI research, model evaluation, or advanced benchmarking
Academic publications or significant professional research experience
