Overview

This internship is focused on AI and Machine Learning (ML) projects, where you will:

• Solve problems and build software solutions leveraging AI technologies.

• Provide technical guidance to Technical Program Managers and Product Managers.

• Learn and adopt new AI tools, frameworks, and responsible AI practices.

• Work on designing, developing, and testing next-generation AI-powered software.

Interns collaborate on real-world AI projects, gain hands-on experience, and contribute to innovative Microsoft products.

Responsibilities

• Apply engineering principles and AI/ML techniques to solve complex problems.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to determine feature requirements.

• Apply Microsoft’s responsible AI practices to ensure trustworthy AI solutions.

• Quickly learn emerging AI/ML methods and incorporate them into work processes.

• Seek feedback and apply best practices to improve technical solutions.

• Demonstrate time management and teamwork skills in project delivery.

• Proactively learn new developments to enhance availability, reliability, and performance of AI systems.

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

• Must have at least 1 semester/term remaining after the internship.

• 1 year of programming experience in an object-oriented language.

• Ability to submit academic transcript if requested.

Preferred Qualifications

• Understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and AI/ML concepts.

• Experience with AI/ML projects, large datasets, or implementing AI solutions.

• Familiarity with AI frameworks/libraries: TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn.

• Experience using AI coding tools like GitHub Copilot, Claude code, Microsoft Roo Code, with understanding of their limitations.

Compensation

• Base pay: USD $5610 – $11,010/month

• Specific ranges for Bay Area & NYC: USD $7,270 – $12,030/month
